Honourable Justice Kevin Feehan Keynote Speaker

Justice Feehan brings nearly five decades in law to the podium. A graduate of the University of Alberta, he practised civil litigation for 38 years at Dentons and its predecessor firms - across constitutional, education, health, insurance, and medical negligence work. He was named Queen's Counsel in 2003, and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2015. He was appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in 2016 and to the Court of Appeal of Alberta in 2019.

He is the recipient of both the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, the Alberta Centennial Medal for Public Service, the Royal Lifesaving Society Commonwealth Honourary Life Governor award, the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association President’s award, the Justice James Higgins award, the Archbishop J.H. MacDonald Distinguished Lifetime Contribution award, and the St. Thomas More Lawyer’s Guild Lifetime Distinction award. He was named Best Lawyers in Canada “Lawyer of the Year” in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 in the areas of personal injury, insurance and medical negligence litigation.

His service to the community and the Catholic Church runs just as deep - Chancellor of Newman Theological College and St. Joseph's Seminary, Vice-Chair of St. Joseph's College at the University of Alberta, and Chair of both Catholic Social Services and the Edmonton Social Planning Council, among many other roles.

Justice Feehan will reflect on the intersection of faith and work in the law - the place of the lawyer and the judge in building a fair and just society, the dignity of the human person, and the task of addressing morally complex questions from the bench. Drawing on his own path from practice to the bench, he will speak to how faith-based principles and legal principles meet in a life lived in the law.

Justice Kevin Feehan has been married to his highschool sweetheart, Dr Mona-Lee Feehan, for 48 years. Together they have four children and ten grandchildren.

This year's talk has been accredited for 1 Hour of CPD credit with the Law Society of British Columbia.
